Lunugamvehera national park

Lunugamvehera National Park is an important habitat for elephants, deer’s and water birds. The catchment area is vital for maintaining the water levels of the five tanks in the down stream of Kirindi Oya and the Bundala National Park features of the wetland. This national park also serves as a migratory corridor between Yala National Park and Udawalawe National Park for the elephants. The national park lies 261 km (162 mi) southwest of Colombo. 

Biodiversity

21 species of fish, 12 amphibians, 33 reptiles, 184 birds and 43 species of mammals were recorded in the park. Elephants visit the teak plantations located within the boundaries of the reserve, while other regions are home to domestic feral and wild buffalo and palm squirrels, giant squirrels, porcupine, palm cat, wild boar, mouse deer and spotted deers. There are sloth bears and leopards but found in low densities.
